Frequently Asked Questions
Q. My company is expanding and I need a new employee. Where do I start?
A. Start by developing a detailed job description and person specification - list the objective of the role, the tasks, responsibilities, reporting lines, competencies, skills, experience, knowledge, career path, training plan, remuneration etc. Outline the ideal person - education, background, personal attributes etc. This will give you a great starting point for any recruitment exercise.

Q. What do I need to consider when hiring staff?
A. There are many issues to consider - here are a few: headcount and budget issues, restructuring or promotion from within, urgency of need, availability of talent in the market, cost-effective candidate sourcing strtategies, advertising media, legislative considerations, induction - and that's just the start! Q. I have limited experience working with Recruitment Consultants. What should I expect from the relationship and how should I work with my Consultant to ensure maximum results?
A. As with any business partnership, open communication is the key. Your Consultant will meet with you to discuss a job brief and find out more about your business. The Consultant will be interested in learning about your company and your unique recruitment needs and should be happy to provide as much guidance and support as you need - including availability of talent, salary trends, market movement, recruitment legislation, candidate testing, advertising strategies, interview skills and more. Be honest about your expectations. Discuss the benefits of working with one consultant on any job brief – more consultants working on your role will not result in a better quality hire or a faster process.

Q. How do I choose a Recruitment Consultant?
A. Ask these questions: does the Consultant know my industry? Do they understand my business? What are their credentials? Are they specialists in financial services? Track record of success within my industry? What type of clients do they work with? What roles do they usually recruit and at what level? How do they ensure a quality process? Do they guarantee a quality outcome? Professionalism, ethics, expertise and value for money should be important considerations when making the selection - bearing in mind this person will effectively become your business partner and play a key role in the success of your company.

Q. How do I measure the success of my recent recruitment exercise?
A. There are a number of metrics, but importantly, the ability of the new recruit to add value to the bottom line in as short a time as possible is probably the most obvious one. Cultural and personality fit, as well as a match between the job specification and the skills and experience of the recruit, will influence the duration of the 'settling in' period. Open communication and effective intergration into the team will help to ensure a long and happy relationship. Clarify mutual expecations early on in the relationship. Get to know the 'person' behind the 'employee'. Ensure you have an effective retention policy in place.
